This guitar-shaped member of the skates and rays is found in the southeast Atlantic from Nambia to the east coast of South Africa. The typical Cape colour variant has numerous small eyespots on the back; in Kwa Zulu-Natal they have simple large dark spots. Feeds on crustaceans, bivalves, polychaete worms and small bony fishes
It is often taken by surf anglers, it is considered good eating. Harmless to humans.

Het wordt vaak genomen door branding vissers, wordt het overwogen het goede eten. Onschadelijk aan mensen.
