This trace is very popular. Again, the traces vary from light to heavy, with the same components as the throw trace, but 1.5 meters in length with a non return clip built into the trace.
How it works:
Cast the sinker as far out as possible or to the required distance. Clip the non-return clip onto your main line and release the live bait. The design of the non-return clip will allow the live bait to swim towards the sinker but not towards you. The live bait will therefore move into deeper water all the time until it is picked up or reach the end of your main line.

Same as regular, but with a couta flasher or rubber squid mounted on the trace. Used where game fish are a possibility, such as Mozambique, Kosi Bay or during the Sardine Run.

Very popular in the Transkei for large hammers, dusky, grey and ragged tooth sharks.

These traces consist of a three metre (light) and four metre (heavy) length of tripled no 5(light) or no 7(light) wire, plaited for bite resistance. Hooks are back-to-back-to back 8/0(light) and 10/0(heavy). A strong power swivel completes the setup. Ideal for the angler wanting to swim small milk sharks and spinner sharks for the big black fin and Zambezi sharks.

The sardine is hooked through the lips on the top hook, and this hook bears the full weight for casting. The metal weight allows the bait to be trolled in a very natural manner, without spinning. There is no need to use bait cotton to secure the bait, and the hook is placed exactly where the shad hits the prey-in the tail area.

For shad you have to use a short piece of wire trace as these fish have very sharp teeth and they are very aggressive when attacking your bait.
The Floating shad trace can also be used to target other predator species for example Kob and Garrick. Use the button (from shirt) to set the depth of the bait as it acts as a stopper for the float.
